RBI Risk Based Inspection
Risk Based Inspection (RBI: Risk Based Inspection) was developed in the early 90s to respond to the needs of the oil, gas and petrochemical industries for risk management and prioritization of equipment based on the level of risk. Risk-based inspection according to the API 580, 581 standard is a new method in inspection management and uses risk assessment in order to plan, justify and interpret the results of inspection, testing and monitoring.In this method, unlike traditional inspection methods, a fixed time interval is not defined, but a specific time interval and inspection method is determined for each device. By using risk-based inspection, while avoiding repeated inspections, inspection facilities and capabilities can be focused on devices with higher risk. Therefore, by implementing this method, in addition to focusing inspection activities on high-risk equipment, we will also save time and money.
RBI can be presented quantitatively, qualitatively or a combination of both evaluation methods. In short, in the RBI method, the probability and consequence of equipment failure is calculated and the risk is obtained by multiplying these two factors. Finally, based on the obtained risk, an inspection plan is defined for them.
